John Vanstone was born on August 6th, 1949. His first job was in the cost accounting department at Aylmer Del Monte in Hamilton. While attending Mohawk college and majoring in Marketing, John worked as a milkman for Silverwood’s Dairy in Brantford, ON (Yes, he can drive a truck while standing).
John actually met his wife Anne while delivering milk to her family home.
From there he began his work in sales for a small chemical business called Hawco Chemical in Brantford. At this point in time, he married Anne who was attending nursing school. They were married for 48 years.
His next job was at Standard Brands selling everything from coffee to pet food. He drove a big station wagon with a St Bernard dog on the hood, kids chased the “Dog Man” home every night.
John then worked at Nestle selling food service equipment, in which Monroe Auto Equipment was a customer. Fred Shaddick met John servicing the coffee machine, and that started John’s 17 years at Monroe.
During his tenure with Monroe, JV and his wife had two children, Jonathan and Lyndsey.
In 1993, John would move on to become a partner at Specialty Sales and Marketing with Don Chase.
During his time with SS&M; he was the Chairman of the Board for AIA as well as the Chairman for Shad’s R&R. And, let’s not forget “Secretary” to the AFS. John has been awarded the AIA Distinguished Service Award; and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medallion. John was with SS&M for 19 years and another 10 years with Modern Sales Co-operative, prior to his retirement.
John currently resides in Orillia, Ontario and enjoys a good game of golf; his son and daughter; and a good bottle of red wine.
