Recognizing industry Leaders, Visionaries and Change Makers
Recognizing industry Leaders, Visionaries and Change Makers
Tony was born and raised in the Toronto area, and graduated De La Salle College by 1960.
In an entrepreneurial spirit, Tony entered in to the Automotive world by owning and operating a BP Service Station at Dufferin and St. Clair in Toronto. After selling his position with BP, an opportunity arose with BF Goodrich in Eastern Ontario.
Recognizing his abilities, Doug Williams hired Tony at AP Parts Canada in 1969 where Tony received increasingly responsible positions until 1979 when his friend Don Bethune approached him for a Vice President’s role at DAYCO Canada.
Tony was a part of Dayco Canada/Mark IV Industries until 1994; moving to Purolator Filters as General Manager (Canada) until his informal retirement. As many do, Tony became a consultant for BESTBUY Distributors and National Sales Inc. until his formal retirement.
Tony was an active participant and industry advocate as a volunteer with both AIA Canada and AARO Ontario, and active within his parish in Milton, Ontario.
Tony met the love of his life (Judy Renner) in the early sixties, and was a devoted Father to Dawn and Kristine, Grandfather to Calvin; Morgan and Colbie. Tony’s legacy continues today through both his daughter’s industry involvement; Dawn Taylor (DAYCO Canada) and Kristine Brown (Wakefield Canada).
Our Industry has been made up of a various array of sizes, shapes and personalities making all of us unique in our own way. Throughout his career, Tony’s successes were realized through his keen sense of humour which helped him build long standing customer relationships.
If his jokes did not make you laugh, his own laughter at his own jokes would make your eyes water and sides hurt.
Always mistaken for Canada’s own Elwy Yost; he was happy to sign autographs when asked, signing, “Tony St. Amour”.
No matter the organization he worked for, he never forgot his “Sales” roots exuding compassion and understanding to those in the career.
Tony has left his mark upon many.
